As a performer

Your options in France

Register with your home performers' society. It pays you when the recordings you play or sing on are broadcast or played in public, and it can collect from other countries where it has agreements.

France has more than one society for this role. Check each card's notes on joining more than one of them.

Sources and notes

Receiving Adami payments does not mean you are a member (associate).

Only performers can apply online.

The online-admission terms still say the signed deed must be posted, while the how-to page says no paper is needed; applications may go to an admission commission.

Rules only say applications are examined 'as soon as possible'; membership starts once your share is recorded in the accounts.

Sources and notes

Membership (and any limits on it) takes effect on 1 January after SPEDIDAM receives it.

You do not need to join to receive French equitable remuneration and private-copy pay; joining is needed for foreign income and exclusive rights.

You can join both SPEDIDAM and ADAMI, but only one of them can collect your income from abroad.

You can also join author or producer societies (SACEM, SCPP, SPPF, etc.) for your other rights.

Online membership via MySpedidam launched in July 2026; the apply link is a login page with a sign-up option.

How we chose these

Your home society comes first: it is the one you join for the rights listed. The joining details come from each society's own website, read on the date shown on its card. Countries we haven't checked yet show the society from our worldwide directory, with a link to its site.

Nothing you enter here is sent anywhere. The document ticks stay in this browser.

Why join?

Songwriters

Societies pay the writers registered with them. If you write songs and aren't a member of an authors' society, your writer share of radio, TV, live and streaming plays can't reach you. It sits unidentified until it is claimed, or is shared out to others.

Performers

When a recording you are on is broadcast or played in public, performers are owed a share (neighbouring rights). It is paid through performers' societies, and registering is how it finds you.

Producers and publishers

Master owners collect their share of the same plays through producers' societies. Publishers collect the publisher share of the songs through the authors' society. Both collect through a society membership.
