- Yes. You apply in myPPL, the online portal: create an account, complete the registration form(s), then verify your ID.
- Members from abroad
- Non-UK entities can join; PPL lists the documents needed for non-UK companies. For performers, qualifying countries include all EU states and many others (see the Performer Qualification Rules).
- Performers: you have performed on recorded music represented by PPL that has been broadcast or played in public.
- Recording rightsholders: you own or exclusively license the rights in commercially released recordings to play in public and broadcast them in the UK.
- To be paid, a performance must be a 'qualifying performance': based on the country where it took place, or the performer's residence/citizenship at the time, under UK law.
- Studio producers can be paid only if they conducted or directed a performance while it was recorded. They are added as non-featured performers via the Eligible Studio Producer form.
- Under-18 performers must contact PPL for a special form, which a parent or guardian co-signs (with their own ID and proof of relationship).
Sources and notes
Performer and recording rightsholder are separate membership types. If both apply to you, myPPL guides you through each one.
Representatives (e.g. managers) need their own myPPL representative account. Each performer or rightsholder they represent must still join in their own right.
Music video rights go through PPL's sister company VPL, not PPL.
UK royalties are paid once a year in June, with quarterly international payments. PPL has US Qualified Intermediary status, so its collections are not hit by 30% US withholding tax.
Once a member, claim your performances on recordings in the PPL Repertoire Database. If a track is missing, ask the rightsholder to add it.
